Dear Colleagues,

The EuGMS SIG on BIG DATA is glad to invite you to its first Coding workshop OPEN meeting. The meeting will take place on 13 March 2025, 14:00 to 3:00pm CET (1 to 2pm UK time)

Coding is a language. It is fast becoming an essential skill to understand the routine data that is part of the healthcare of older adults.

Following some easy steps, we believe all geriatricians and professionals involved in the care of older adults can use simple code to see and interpret useful patterns in the data of older people under our care. This has many potential applications in patient care, including: service evaluation and design, audit, research, policy and clinical support systems.

This workshop will be run by Dr. med. Thomas Kocar, a neurologist and clinician scientist working at the Geriatric Center Ulm and Ulm University in Germany. Thomas has expertise in data science and AI applied to the healthcare of older adults. Dr Kocar will guide us through easy steps in using Python

This is a brief crash course on how to code from basics. If you understand one coding language you can apply it to another syntax.

  • We will use open access data.
  • We will use freely available coding tools.
  • We will show you how to write basic code in real time.
  • We will provide further learning methods.

All are most welcome.

No previos coding experience required.

Any question please contact o.todd@leed.ac.uk.

We look forward to meeting many of you online!

Be on time, mute your microphone when you're not talking and enjoy this moment with your colleagues!
Please notice that the meeting will be recorded and that the audio and video recordings might be used by the EuGMS for dissemination on the EuGMS website and social media.

Kind regards,
Co-chairs: Dr Giulia Ogliari; Dr Oliver Todd
