Dear Colleagues,

The EuGMS SIG on BIG DATA and AI in Geriatric Medicine is glad to invite you to its first OPEN meeting. The meeting will take place on 16th May 2024, 13:00 to 14:30 UK time (2 to 3:30pm CEST).

The agenda of the upcoming meeting is as follows:

Speaker 1:
Dr. Oliver Todd (20 minutes, 10 minutes discussion)

  • Title 1:
    "Introduction to SIG Big data"
  • Bio 1:
Oly is a consultant geriatrician in the NHS and associate professor in geriatric medicine at the University of Leeds. His research work chiefly focuses on developing a stronger evidence base for the management of blood pressure in later life using routine health care data. In 2019, together with 11 clinicians and researcher we set up the @geridata collaboration in the UK in 2019. Together we have published three new horizons reviews on topics of harnessing routine data for research, digital healthcare and artificial intelligence for older people. We have run a series of workshops and conferences.
This meeting will launch the collaboration as a Special Interest Group of the European Geriatric Medicine Society, and propose some key themes and plans we hope to develop as part of our collaboration over the forthcoming 2 years.

Speaker 2:
Mr. Prasad Nishtala (20 minutes, 10 minutes discussion)

  • Titel 2:
Development of an Anticholinergic Cognitive Burden Classification Scale using drug parameters: a machine learning analysis
  • Bio 2:
Associate Professor Nishtala has made significant contributions spanning over two decades with 174 research outputs to geriatric pharmacoepidemiology and drug safety, a branch of science focusing on understanding the safety and outcomes of medicines in older adults. As a founding member and key co-investigator within the Big Data and Better Ageing Research Group, Christchurch, New Zealand, he has led international teams using the interRAI database to investigate medicines safety in older adults. Since 2020, his research has focused on using artificial intelligence to tackle multimorbidity in the UK's ageing population.

Speaker 3:
Prof. Maura Marcucci (20 minutes, 10 minutes discussion):

  • Titel 3:
Multimodal biomarkers and AI for understanding, early detection and prediction of postoperative neurocognitive disorders in older surgical patients: the NeuroVISION-2 study
  • Bio 3:
Dr. Marcucci is an internationally trained internist (Italy) and perioperative medicine specialist, with an MSc in Health Research Methodology. Until recently, she had been an Assistant then Associate Professor at the Departments of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact (HEI), and Medicine at McMaster University, and attending physician in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Perioperative Service at Hamilton Health Sciences. She is now Associate Professor at the Clinical Epidemiology and Research Centre (CERC), Humanitas University & IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital, Milan, Italy, with a Part-Time appointment at McMaster. She remains an active Scientist in the Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Surgical Research Group at the Population Health Research Institute, Hamilton, ON, and Member of the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging. Since the beginning of her research career she has been involved in national and international collaborations on aging-related topics. Her current research is on cardiovascular and functional outcomes of older patients undergoing noncardiac surgery, with a main focus on perioperative frailty and neurocognitive disorders.
We look forward to meeting many of you online!
